Malaria Campaigns
End MalariaThe Malaria Foundation International (MFI) is a non-profit organization established in 1992 to fight malaria. With goals to support awareness, education, training, research, and leadership programs about the disease, MFI works in conjunction with a total of seventeen other individuals, groups, and programs including seven in the United States. In 2006, MFI launched the Blue Ribbon Campaign to End Malaria. “The world now has a universal symbol, which we hope will bring unity among the growing number of individuals and organizations working to fight malaria,” said Admiral Timothy Ziemer, Coordinator of the President’s Malaria Initiative.

Dr. SeussWritten by Dr. Seuss, ‘“Ann” Anopheles Mosquito’ is a piece originally intended to inform and instruct GIs that served in the tropics during both World Wars about malaria.  The United States Army Orientation Course distributed the literature on the backside of NEWSMAP, the overseas edition, volume II, number 29, week of October 28 – November 4, 1983. The comic, starring Ann, an Anophele mosquito, humorously explains in an adult manner the precautions, preventions, symptoms, and treatments of this sometimes-fatal, mosquito-borne disease caused by a parasite. The Diptera Site, a site purely dedicated to the study of the flies around the world, contains the full text version of the story.
