Ford Foundation International Fellowships Programme (IFP), West Africa: IFP is a program supported by the Ford Foundation, and administered in West Africa by the AAU. IFP provides fellowships for advanced study to exceptional individuals who will use their education to further development in their own countries and greater social and economic justice worldwide. Hughes Medical Institue Research Training Fellowships for Medical Students: The program supports a year of full-time biomedical research training for medical and dental students. The fellowships provide funds to support fellows and meet their research- and education-related expenses. Applicants must be enrolled in a U.S. medical school or dental school, and the fellowship research may be conducted at any academic or nonprofit institution in the United States, except the National Institutes of Health. Research may be conducted abroad if the fellow's mentor is affiliated with a U.S. institution. Deadline: January 11, 2008. University Hospital for Infectious Diseases Fellowship: The position, located in Zagreb, Croatia, aims to familiarize the fellow with the research conducted by the hospital, and to assist Croatian scientists to prepare funding applications for research projects, develop partnerships for future collaborations with the U.S., and organize a series of lectures and workshops dealing with the funding application process. Gates Foundation Global Health Explorations Initiative. Grand Challenges explorations is a $100 million fast-track grants initiative to support innovative global health research.The goal of the initiative is to spur the kind of unconventional scientific thinking that is critical to solving serious global health problems. The Foundation wants to encourage researchers around the world to take risks on creative, unorthodox approaches that could ultimately lead to big breakthroughs in health.The first call for proposals will be posted on the program website http://www.gcgh.org/ in early 2008, along with the list of topics being addressed and application instructions.
