Task force tackles increased investment in the education and training of health workers in developing countries: A new international Task Force was launched under the auspices of the Global Health Workforce Alliance  http://www.who.int/workforcealliance/en/ to tackle the global shortage of health workers.  The Task Force is due to present its initial recommendations to the GHWA Forum in Autumn 2007.

Announcing the NIH Director’s Bridge Awards: NOT-OD-07-056. This announcement describes the NIH Director’s Bridge Award (NDBA) designed to provide continued but limited funding for new and established grantees who have submitted a competing renewal grant application that describes a highly meritorious project.

Lancet Call for Papers on Global Response to HIV/AIDS: (Link available only to JHU faculty, staff & students or others with an e-subscription) In July this year, the 4th International AIDS Society (IAS)Conference will take place in Sydney, Australia, with the aim ofexamining how scientific advances can inform the global response to HIV/AIDS. The Lancet is planning a special issue to co-incide with the conference and has issued a call for research papers on all aspects of HIV pathogenesis, treatment, and prevention. Manuscripts are due May 4, 2007.

Physicians Needed for Medical Mission. A group of students from Philadelphia College of Osteophathic Medicine, Johns Hopkins Medical Institution, and Drexel School of Medicine, is planning a medical mission trip to Khanh Hoa, Viet Nam this summer.  The group is currently looking for three primary care physicians to join the mission from June 17- June 30 , 2007. Infectious Diseases Society of America Summer Scholarships for Medical Students: Students in any year of medical school are eligible for this award.  The scholarship activity must focus on pediatric or adult infectious diseases and may involve either clinical or research activities.  All applications must be received by April 2, 2007.
