Project Funding

American Institute for Maghrib Studies (AIMS) Grants Program for U.S. Citizens: (From COS) All categories of AIMS grants offer both long-term and short-term research awards to scholars interested in conducting research on North African in any Maghrebi country, specifically Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Libya, or Mauritania.Graduate students currently enrolled in an M.A. or Ph.D. program and faculty in all disciplines are eligible to apply. Deadline: December 1, 2006.

Fellowships

Carolina Postdoctoral Program for Faculty Diversity: (From COS) The purpose of the program is to develop scholars from underrepresented groups for possible tenure track appointments at UNC-Chapel Hill and other research universities. Postdoctoral scholars will participate essentially full-time in research and may teach only one course per year. Deadline: January 4, 2007.

UC-Berkley Chancellor's Postdoctoral Fellowship Program for Academic Diversity: (From COS) The Chancellor's Postdoctoral Fellowship Program for Academic Diversity was established to increase the number of ethnic minority faculty members at the University of California at Berkeley. The program provides postdoctoral fellowships, research opportunities, mentoring, and guidance in preparation for academic career advancement. The program currently solicits applications from individuals committed to careers in university research and teaching, and whose life experience, research, or employment background will contribute significantly to academic diversity and excellence at the Berkeley campus. Deadline: November 15, 2006.

The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Postdoctoral Fellowship for Foreign Researchers: (From COS) The fellowship provides opportunities to young postdoctoral researchers from foreign countries to conduct, under the guidance of their hosts, cooperative research with leading research groups in universities and other Japanese institutions. The program is aimed at providing opportunities for such researchers to help them to advance their own research while contributing to the advancement of research in Japan and the counterpart countries. Deadline: May 11, 2007.

Matsumae International Foundation Fellowship: (From COS) Fields of study such as the natural sciences, engineering, and medicine are given first priority. Applicants are free to select host institutions (university research laboratories, national research institutions, or the corresponding facilities of private industry) in which to carry out their research. Acceptance must be obtained in advance of submitting applications for a fellowship. Deadline: July 31, 2007.

The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Postdoctoral Fellowship (Short-Term) for Foreign Researchers: (From COS)The fellowship was established to provide opportunities to young pre- and post-doctoral researchers from the U.S., Canada, and Europe to conduct, under the guidance of their hosts, cooperative research with leading research groups in universities and other Japanese institutions. In so doing, the program is designed to help advance the research of the visiting fellows, while augmenting opportunities for young researchers to come to Japan from abroad. Deadline: December 1, 2006, February 9, 2007, April 6, 2007, May 11, 2007.

Scholarships

M.A. Cartland Shackford Medical Scholarship: (From COS) The scholarship is for the study of medicine with a view toward general practice, not psychiatry. The schlorarship is for women who are graduates from any American institution and is open to all nationalities. Deadline: January 5, 2007.
