Opportunities

Wakley Prize: (From COS) The editors of The Lancet invite researchers to enter a competition for the Wakley Prize, which is awarded annually for the best essay on a clinical topic of international health importance. The aim is for applicants to forget, temporarily, the constraints of writing up research for submission and to allow their imagination freedom to develop an idea into the free-flowing prose of a superb essay.

Scholarships/Fellowships

Hughes Medical Institute Research Training Fellowships for Medical Students: The Program supports a year of full-time biomedical research training for medical and dental students. The fellowships provide funds to support fellows and meet their research- and education-related expenses. Applicants must be enrolled in a U.S. medical school or dental school and the fellowship research may be conducted at any academic or nonprofit institution in the United States, except the National Institutes of Health. Research may be conducted abroad if the fellow's mentor is affiliated with a U.S. institution.

TDR Research Training Grants: (From COS) The Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR) awards, on a competitive basis, Research Training Grants for studies leading to a postgraduate degree, or for acquiring specialized skills.Priority is given to applicants from the Least Developed Countries (LDC) as defined by the United Nations.  Deadline: November 15, 2006.
