Grab Your Passport for International Training in Clinical Research: Graduate students in the health professions have an exciting opportunity to go abroad for training in clinical research.

Volunteer Opportunity for NPs and MDs in Rural Haiti. Volunteers are needed to participate in a medical mission in rural southwest Haiti from October 13 - 20, 2007. Volunteers must have a current professional license, clinical experience, and be willing to be part of a multidisciplinary team. Framework Program in Global Health - Predoctoral Research Fellowships: The Johns Hopkins Center for Global Health is now accepting applications for fellowships for short-term research experiences to address global health issues. The objective of this program is to enhance the recruitment of diverse students into research and practice careers in global health. Open to all JHU undergraduate and graduate students. Note new deadline for submission: November 15, 2007. 

Hughes Medical Institute Research Training Fellowships for Medical Students (from COS): The Medical Fellows Program supports a year of full-time biomedical research training for medical students. The fellowships provide funds to support fellows and meet their research- and education-related expenses. Research may be conducted abroad if the fellow's mentor is affiliated with a U.S. institution. Deadline: January 11, 2008.

Support for Epidemiology, Modeling, and Tools for Monitoring the Impact of the Response to the HIV/AIDS Epidemic in Zimbabwe Under PEPFAR: The purpose of the announcement is to advance the scientific investigation of the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Zimbabwe through assistance to key Zimbabwean institutions. Deadline: September 28, 2007.

Provision of  Home-Based, Confidential HIV Counseling and Testing and Basic Care in High HIV-Prevalence Districts in Uganda under PEPFAR: The purpose of this announcement is to provide 100 percent access to confidential, home-based, HIV counseling and testing in selected high HIV-prevalence Districts in the central region of Uganda (including Wakiso, total population 907,988; Luwero, total population 478,595; Nakasongola, total population 127,064; and Mubende, total population 689,530.) Deadline: October 5, 2007.

Expanding Uptake for PMTCT Interventions in Uganda by Using Community-Based Strategies under PEPFAR: The purpose of this funding announcement is to increase uptake of Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT) interventions in the Republic of Uganda through appropriate and effective community-based strategies in the Republic of Uganda. Deadline: October 5, 2007.

Neuro-AIDS Pilot Grant Announcement 2008: The Johns Hopkins University NIMH Center for Novel Therapeutics of HIV-Associated Cognitive Disorders, located in the Department of Neurology, has announced the upcoming 2008 Developmental Pilot Grant Awards for innovative Neuro-AIDS projects. The grant awards are particularly designed to stimulate new projects and encourage new investigators to generate data which would be used for future grant applications. Faculty members of any rank are encouraged to apply, and collaborations with other academic institutions or international sites are allowable. The Center will award 2-4 pilot grants of $25,000 to $45,000 in direct costs for a one year period. Letters of Intent, a required first part of a two-stage process, are due by October 7, 2007.
