Research and Professional Experience
My current research efforts comprise the following four areas:
1. Design and analysis of individual as well as group randomized clinical trials evaluating novel interventions for the prevention of TB and HIV-AIDS. Currently, I am involved in several randomized studies evaluating the impact of male circumcision on HIV and STDs in Uganda and those evaluating innovative strategies for the prevention of dual TB and HIV-AIDS epidemic in children and adults in Ethiopia, Uganda, Brazil, South Africa and India. This collaborative research requires careful and sometimes innovative application of modern statistical methodologies.
2. Development and evaluation of interval estimation methods for incremental cost-effectiveness ratios for individual and group randomized trials in health services research. These methods are quickly adaptable to other complex non-linear statistics.
3. Survey sampling techniques involving the estimation of variance and inference from unequal probability, multistage sample designs.
4. Statistical computing primarily in SAS and R. Recently, I have written a SAS macro to generate optimal randomization schemes for group randomized trials balancing potential baseline covariates between the study arms.
