Research and Professional Experience

Dr. Kim has expertise in the fields of prevention and management of cardiovascular risk factors of underserved populations including the prevention of type 2 diabetes focusing on racial disparities in risk. She has been the PI on several externally funded research projects and is the director of JHU Center for Excellence in Cardiovascular Health (P30 NR011409), has a well-established track record in identifying important social determinants of health disparity that appear to be associated with uncontrolled DM and HBP in underserved ethnic minorities including stress, low health literacy, and insufficient access to health care and health information/ health technologies. As the PI of the Center for Excellence in Cardiovascular Health, she can provide expertise as it relates to translational research in diabetes especially as it relates to prevention and control. She also has excellent track record of mentoring numerous doctoral and post doctoral students from various disciplines (Nursing, public health, medicine, social work, nutrition). Her program of research based on minority communities provides an ideal setting form many undergraduate and graduate  students to have “hand on” emergent experiences on both practice and research skills.
