Research and Professional Experience

My research interests focus on HIV prevention and behavioral interventions in low- and middle-income countries. Specifically, I am interested in new approaches to HIV prevention that work in collaboration with people living with HIV to address holistic care and prevention needs through positive health, dignity, and prevention interventions and serosorting - when HIV-infected individuals seek other HIV-infected individuals for intimate relationships. Serosorting has been examined primarily among MSM in high-income countries, but there has been little examination of this issue in other settings. I also work on issues of coping with HIV and integration of HIV with other sexual and reproductive health services. Recently, I have worked more with most at risk populations, including MSM and sex workers, and particularly the positive health, dignity and prevention needs of these populations.

Methodologically, I focus on qualitative research and serve as a co-instructor for the qualitative research course series. I also have extensive experience with systematic reviews and meta-analysis to evaluate the efficacy of interventions and to inform guideline development by organizations such as the World Health Organization.

Other interests include research ethics and community participation in research, including community-based participatory research (CBPR).
