SciVal Experts Research Profile

Research and Professional Experience

My areas of interest include reproductive health, women's international health and development, household gender dynamics, and decision-making autonomy and power. I bring an interest in these problems from both a demographic and sociological perspective. My research interests focus primarily in sub-Saharan Africa and the Philippines. My long-term goals are to gain a better understanding of the relationship between household dynamics, gender relations, and the individual and societal factors that influence or impinge upon health choices. I hope that results from my research will enable policy-makers and activists to better address persistent gender inequalities. In blending training from sociology and demography, I hope to integrate knowledge about the importance of culture and setting with data collection, sophisticated analytical techniques, and methodology.
