Research and Professional Experience

My primary research interest centers on older individuals, their need for and use of health and related services, and the associated outcomes. I am also interested in the informal caregivers for older persons, the transitions into and out of caregiving, and the association of depression, general health, health behaviors, and sense of self-mastery with caregiving. Another interest is the association of a diagnosis of dementia among nursing home residents with their medical service use. Recently I and others published a review of the use of electronic health records and the barriers to dissemination.

I continue to work with colleagues, led by Dr. Bruce Leff, on dissemination in the U. S. of a Hospital at Home model for acute care for certain persons with pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, congestive heart failure, or cellulitis.
