    Summary

The Cochrane Eyes and Vision Group aims to prepare, maintain and promote access to systematic reviews of interventions used to prevent or treat eye diseases and/or visual impairment. The work of the CEVG is carried out by over 300 members in more than 30 countries. The CEVG editorial team is located in London, UK and the CEVG US Project (CEVG@US) is a US-based satellite at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

  • Projects The Philippines: Cervical Cancer Program
    Summary

Jhpiego’s work in the Philippines over the last three decades has focused on strengthening health education and training of physicians, nurses and midwives. One of Jhpiego’s current initiatives in the Philippines is the Cervical Cancer Prevention Program (CECAP), which will build on Jhpiego’s success with similar cervical cancer prevention and treatment programs in Thailand and Ghana. It is an 18-month pilot program starting at three sites with the objective of rapid expansion. It is being implemented with support from GlaxoSmithKline and in partnership with the Cancer Institute of the Philippine General Hospital-University of the Philippines.

Through this initiative, Jhpiego is providing technical support to the Cervical Cancer Prevention Network Program (CECAP), which is working to eliminate cervical cancer in the country. CECAP is committed to increasing women’s awareness of cervical cancer and providing them access to treatment. The Jhpiego-CECAP Network Alliance of Preventive Services promotes the single visit approach (SVA) using visual inspection of the cervix, with cryotherapy treatment when necessary. The goal of this approach is to identify and treat women with pre-cancer and cancer of the cervix, thereby reducing unnecessary illness and death.

CECAP is also working toward the provision of a standard center not only for service, but...

  • Projects The Philippines: Strengthening Local Governance for Health
    Summary

Jhpiego has worked in the Philippines for the past 30 years with the support of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), strengthening the capacity of physicians, nurses and midwives to provide high-quality reproductive health services and improving the clinical skills of nurses and physicians graduating from medical, nursing and midwifery schools. Jhpiego’s efforts have enhanced local professional health care education across the 17 regions of the Philippines through revision of the health training curricula for numerous medical and nursing colleges. As of October 2005, Jhpiego has been a legally registered entity in the Philippines.

Currently, Jhpiego is partnering with the Research Triangle Institute and Centre for Development and Population Activities on the new, USAID-funded Philippines Strengthening Local Governance for Health (HealthGov) Program. This is a five-year program to strengthen local government unit commitment and support to public health services and increase the capacity of the local government to provide and sustain high-quality health care services.

About Jhpiego: For nearly 40 years, Jhpiego, (pronounced "ja-pie-go"), has empowered front-line health workers by designing and implementing simple, low-cost, hands-on solutions that strengthen the delivery of health care services, following the household-to-hospital continuum of care. We partner with community- to national-level organizations to build...
