Data
- Background[1]
-
Located in Eastern Asia along the South China Sea, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region was first occupied by the UK in 1841 and then China by the following year. Hong Kong currently is not affected by China's socialist economic system but rather practices autonomy in all areas besides foreign and defense affairs. Made up of over than 200 islands, the country is subject to occasional typhoons and worries about such issues as air and water pollution due to the rapid urbanization.
