Spain

Data

Background[1]

Located in Southwestern Europe along the Bay of Biscay, Mediterranean Sea, and the North Atlantic Ocean, the Kingdom of Spain held a powerful world empire between the 16th and 17th centuries. However, failure to compete with the mercantile and industrial revolutions expanding in Britain, France, and Germany caused a decrease economically and politically. Spain regained its title of having one of the most dynamic economies by 1986 following its membership to the EU and continues today as a global champion of freedom. Currently, it still suffers, however, from terroism, high unemployment, droughts, and poor management of waste and pollution.
