Located in the Caribbean as an island in the North Atlantic Ocean, Barbados was uninhabited until the British discovered the land in 1627. Slavery was at large throughout the island until 1834, the time slavery was abolished. Consequently, the economy remains dependent on the production of rum, sugar, and molasses; currently, tourism and manufacturing surpasses those industries.
