Italy International Health Policy To work in an international organization focused on cooperation and integration of health systems and basic research among countries. Each of Elena Martinelli’s publications is a great accomplishment, but she is particularly proud of her first – written with first name authorship within her first year at NIH – and her most recent, detailing the discovery of a new HIV-1 receptor that gives an important boost to understanding HIV’s pathology. Elena has worked as a Visiting Fellow at the Laboratory of Immunoregulation at NIAID at the National Institute of Health (NIH) since 2004, and she spent last summer in the Embassy Science Fellow Program in Lao, People’s Democratic Republic. She hopes that the Hopkins MPH program will prepare her to find innovative solutions for a better use of existing resources that will help people in developing countries make more informed decisions about their health.
