Vivian Go Vietnam Bloomberg School of Public Health, DrPH Background: Recently, Dr. Go received a new 5 year grant to support a collaborative project in Vietnam with the Thai Nguyen Center for Preventive Medicine. She has assembled a multidisciplinary team of researchers based in the United States and Vietnam to carry out the randomized controlled trial among HIV-positive IDUs of a behavioral intervention to reduce high risk injecting and sexual behaviors.
Objective: The objective of this project is to develop research performance measurement and management models for Dr. Go’s multidisciplinary team in Vietnam. These models aim to enhance team knowledge, skills and capacities, improve team performance, create transparent organizational structures, and achieve better organizational outcomes. Methods: As a recent MBA graduate, I will apply my newly acquired management skills and will create a performance management toolkit for the multidisciplinary team in Vietnam. Performance management toolkits provide a systematic framework for the team in Vietnam to identify, articulate and develop the knowledge and skills that are linked to the goals of the research project. The first phase is to identify key stakeholders; the second phase is to conduct SWOT: strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats analysis; and the final phase is to develop a balanced scorecard to measure performance. The performance management toolkit establishes organizational structures and processes for knowledge transfer among internal and external stakeholders and builds a strong line of communication between individuals in a team and across research institutes |
