>> Back to all 2006 Headlines December 15, 2006 The Johns Hopkins Center for Global Health has announced the winners of thirteen Framework Program in Global Health awards. Each award is for $3,000 to $5,000 and will support the short-term, overseas field work of students at Johns Hopkins University. The award winners are School of Medicine MD candidates Matthew Burkey, Olivia Griffiths, and Emily Sydnor, PhD and MD candidate Curtis Chong and PhD and MHS candidate Abigail Markoe; School of Nursing MSN and MPH candidate Lai Wong; Blomberg School of Public Health PhD candidates Andreea Creanga, Preety Gadhoke, Rebecca Kanter, and Caitlin Kennedy; and School of Arts and Sciences bachelor’s candidates Brian Kalish, Aaron Martel, and Rishi Mediratta. The objective of the Framework Program in Global Health is to enhance the recruitment of diverse students into research and practice careers in global health. Students receiving the award must work a faculty advisor who will provide mentoring for their project. Typically, the student work at an international site where the faculty advisor has on-going research activities. This program allows students to get hands-on experience in an international location, which will serve to further their education and define their career goals. The program is supported by the National Institutes of Health’s Fogarty International Center and the Johns Hopkins Center for Global Health. The grants are awarded twice a year, with deadlines in November and April. Hopkins students interested in applying can visit the Framework Program in Global Health page for more information. Both undergraduate and graduate students are eligible. >> Click here to learn more about each winner's project, read about their experiences abroad, and see photos of their time away.
